Dear Friends and Family,
We had to put our 19 year old dog friend (Misty Dawn) to sleep Monday. She is already missed. Have to admit that she had a very good life and more adventures than most people ever had or will have.
We got her from the pound in Juneau,AK. in 1983 . She was 5 weeks. old and the only girl out of a litter of 7 brothers (all black I might add). Guess we always considered her the white sheep of the family.
She was the best companion a person could ever ask for. She played and worked beside us for all the years we were in Alaska, and always by our side wherever we roamed after moving back to the lower 48. She loved swimming and diving for rocks (although never coming up w/ the same one). She loved our family and friends and wherever we were, thought it her job to protect everyone around us.
The first year we were on our property we lived in a tent, Misty loved it. When the house was finished, she wasn't sure about moving into a building.
She saved Mike from a black bear one time while they were in thick brush. The bear stood up in front of Mike so close he couldn't get his rifle up. Misty jumped in between them and bit that ole' bear right on the nose, sending it on his way (in quite a hurry I might add).
She would go with Mike when he was trapping only to come back with a surprise for Mike. She would bring back a mink she had gotten on her own.
She was with us on our fishing boats, airplanes, ferry rides, trucks, cars, in logging camps and with Mike on all his camping adventures .
She loved it when he would take her on camping trips,They would hike for miles and at the end of the day, Misty would sleep in Mike's sleeping bag to stay warm.
She was a great friend and will be missed.
