Sky crane on barge North of Wrangell , Alaska around 1983. The skycrane was pulled by a tug. I was on another barge with the towers. The skycrane couldn't fly more than 2 1/2 miles one way. The skycrane would land on the barge and be pulled closer to the area where the towers would be set.
This is one of the helicopters that would deliver us to each tower site where we would wait for the skycrane to deliver a tower. There were 2 or 3 crews and we would leap frog trying to stay ahead of the skycrane.
Skycrane delivering a tower. The wind from the blades would produce 100 mph winds. Directly under the chopper, it was calm. I would later be transfered to the tower barge. A much easier job.
Tower being delivered to next site as we prepare to leave our site.
Another crew landing a structure as we pass over head enroute to the next site.
